Parking was available in the parking garage opposite the Cam Henderson Center on 3rd Avenue where the race starts. There was also parking next to Marshall Stadium where the race finished. There is no need for a bag drop because both the start and the finish are very close to the parking lots.
Packet Pickup 10-7 Saturday and race morning 6-7:30 AM. The pasta dinner was held at the site of the Packet pickup from 4-7 PM Saturday. Cost $8.
The pasta dinner was very good and it was a lot of fun to mingle with the other runners.
We spent the day touring Huntington, the campus, and the Blenko glass factory. I bought this really cool purple water pitcher, glass pendant necklace, and this amazing glass fish.
This course map is from 2010 but it seems to have only minor changes from the 2007 course.
The course is flat and fast. It is a perfect course to qualify for Boston! Runners start next to Cam Henderson Center and run through downtown Huntington past Pullman Square, next to the Ohio River, and through Ritter Park.
The race runs through Marshall University and finishes in the stadium. You descend down the STEEP ramp and enter the stadium at the NW corner. You then run down the west side of the field to the south end zone to the goal post.
Footballs are available at the goal line to carry for the last 100 yards finishing at the north goal line – no spiking!! Woo-hoo!!!
Results & Awards
Cristy 3:30.02 5th Overall Female 1st Age Group
Age Group awards were great Blenko Glass pitchers! The only problem was that it was the very same pitcher in the same color that I bought the day before at the factory! I begged the guy to switch me the purple one for a green one so that I would have two different colors!
The awards were SO organized. There was a colored dot on your bib indicating your age group. When you crossed the finish line (with the FOOTBALL!!) they took off your chip, handed you your water, put the medal around your neck, and handed you your prize!! WOW!! Great organization!!!!
The post race goodies were right there on the field, so as you were having your recovery snacks you could watch others running in to the finish! Very fun!!!!
If you register by the deadline you get a GREAT FLEECE PULLOVER!! If you don’t, you get a nice long sleeve cotton T Shirt…We registered late, so we got the T Shirt and bought the fleece jacket. Both were great!
The incredible marathoner John Wallace!
